White/Caucasian

White/Caucasian is a term used to describe "a person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa" (NCBI, 2022). This language was adopted from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)  DIRECTIVE NO. 15 Race and Ethnic Standards for Federal Statistics and Administrative Reporting, which was originally adopted  in 1977 (CDC, 2019). 

  • Europe includes the nations of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
  • Middle East includes the nations of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Republic of Cyprus, Georgia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, State of Palestine (the UN recognizes Palestine as a sovereign state), Syria, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.
  • North Africa includes the nations of Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, Western Sahara.
