Faculty can use the Library Purchase Request Form to suggest books, journals, databases, or other materials that support teaching and research.
We focus on items that help students—like textbooks and resources used in current courses. While we try to fill all requests, we give priority to materials that support the curriculum and student learning.
To request something, just fill out the form. Our team will review it based on how relevant and available the item is.
Partner with a librarian to strengthen your students’ ability to find, evaluate, and use information effectively. Lewis Library librarians can help by offering targeted instruction on advanced search strategies, using specialized databases, managing citations, and more—all aligned with your course goals.
Search Strategies – We teach students how to search academic databases using smart strategies like keywords, filters, and Boolean operators to find high-quality, peer-reviewed sources.
Evidence-Based Medicine – We provide instruction on evidence-based practice, including how to search for and evaluate clinical research, systematic reviews, and guidelines. We can also demonstrate how to use resources like PubMed and Cochrane Library effectively.
Library Resources – We give students an overview of the library’s online and physical resources, including how to access journals, e-books, and databases.
Citation Management – We help your students manage their citations and bibliographies with EndNote. We can teach students how to import citations, organize references, and automatically generate citations in the correct format for their papers.
Research Methods & Academic Integrity – We introduce basic research methods (qualitative and quantitative), and help students understand how to avoid plagiarism and cite their sources correctly.
We can create library sessions that fit your course and support your students' learning goals. Here’s what we offer:
Customized sessions – We’ll design a session that matches your course topics and assignments.
Hands-on learning – Students get to practice skills they can use right away.
Partnering with a librarian can help strengthen your students’ research skills, save class time, and make the most of library resources. To schedule a session or discuss options, please reach out to your liaison librarian or email Ask a Librarian.
Course Reserves are books, articles, or other materials set aside for use in specific courses. Instructors ask the library to put these materials on reserve so all students can easily access important course content.
Print reserves can be borrowed for short periods to make sure everyone gets a chance to use them.
Electronic reserves are available online through LIST IT @ HSC, which you can access in Canvas.
LIST IT @ HSC is a system that helps faculty and librarians work together to manage electronic course materials and reading lists. It handles copyright rules and purchases in one place, saving students money.
LIST IT @ HSC also makes sure students can find and use Open Educational Resources and library materials right inside Canvas, supporting learning and fairness for all students.
