Research Data Management

Discipline-Specific Repositories

There are discipline-specific public data repositories available for numerous research areas. When possible, we recommend depositing your data in a repository that best fits your research. Often, discipline-specific repositories can better accommodate specific data archiving needs than a general repository, including utilizing metadata standards that are specific by research type.

Use the following resources to find a repository that best support your data.

  • FAIRsharing.org - A registry of databases, policies, and repository standards with filtering options, related databases, and any standards implemented.
  • National Institutes of Health - A searchable list of repositories for sharing scientific data including institute/center-specific, descriptions, and subject areas.
  • National Library of Medicine - A searchable list of domain-specific repositories including subject areas, access types, and properties.
  • re3data.org - A registry of research data repositories, covering subjects like natural sciences, life sciences, engineering sciences, humanities and social sciences.

Check the data guidelines from your funding agency and/or journal to which you have submitted to find out where or how they require your data to be shared.
