Scopus Basics

An introduction to using Scopus for locating information in the health sciences.

What is Scopus?

Scopus is a database of citations and abstracts from across the sciences: life sciences, social sciences, physical sciences, and health sciences. Due to this range of content, Scopus is an excellent resource for interdisciplinary topics. In addition to literature published in US journals, Scopus also indexes a wide range of journals published outside of the US, making it a useful resource for global information.

Furthermore, everything in Scopus is linked. If you'd like to learn more about a term (keyword, author, affiliation, etc), just click on the word! Clicking on an author or affiliation name will give you useful information such as their impact metrics. Impact metrics are a measure of an individual or institution's research impact.

Introducing Scopus AI!

Type a query into Scopus AI in the words, format and language of your choice. Scopus AI then sources and uses relevant Scopus content to generate a Topic summary and an Expanded summary.

Each response references the sources used and indicates the tool's confidence in relevance. If it can’t find sufficient evidence, strict prompt engineering instructs Scopus AI to tell you and suggest alternative queries—greatly reducing the risk of hallucinations.

Note:  Do not copy Scopus AI summaries for research papers as it can be considered academic dishonesty/plagiarism.   Scopus AI summaries are meant as basic information to familiarize yourself with a topic.  However, you can research the references used in the summaries and restate the article's main ideas for your paper in your own words.
